Brown Shipley Appoints Toby Vaughan as new Chief Investment Officer

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Toby Vaughan as our new Chief Investment Officer (CIO). He will start his new role in October this year.

Toby will join from Santander Asset Management, where he is Head of the Multi Strategy Solutions Team. He brings a wealth of experience, including being responsible for the oversight of more than £14bn of assets. This covers a range of investment strategies from traditional multi-asset risk-profiled products through to more outcome focused portfolios. His broader experience covers a variety of areas, from lead management of portfolios, the development of investment processes, and the management of fund management teams.

In his 17 years in the fund management industry, Toby and his teams have received numerous accolades and industry recognition for the management of portfolios and process, both in the UK and internationally. At Santander Asset Management some of these include managing product ranges with a Defaqto 5 Diamond rating and winning the Fund of Funds Investment Week Fund Manager of the Year. Prior to Santander Asset Management Toby was a Principal Fund Manager at LV Asset Management, after starting his career at F&C Asset Management in 2001.

In his new role, Toby will be responsible for our Investment Office, working closely with the firm’s 50 investment specialists, further strengthening our Shipley’s investment capabilities. He will replace current CIO, Don Smith, who is leaving the business at the end of September after three years to pursue other career opportunities.

Commenting on the appointment, Alan Mathewson, CEO at Brown Shipley, said: “This is an exciting hire for Brown Shipley. Toby is an experienced Asset Management professional and I look forward to working with him as he further enhances our investment management proposition for our clients.”

Commenting on his appointment, Toby Vaughan added: “I am thrilled to be joining Brown Shipley. With a rich heritage and strong foundations, the business has clear growth plans. I look forward to working with my team and playing an instrumental role in helping take Brown Shipley to the next level.”

Toby’s appointment is the first senior hire made by new CEO, Alan Mathewson, since joining the business in April of this year. Alan joined from Santander UK where he worked as Managing Director, Wealth Management and Private Banking. As of 30 June, Brown Shipley had £7.8bn AUM.
