Our specialist teams are knowledgeable in advising and managing large compensation awards for court of protection and personal injury clients and trusts. Ensuring a smooth transition to the next generation is paramount and we have extensive succession planning experience, which extends to the use of Family Investment Companies as a tax efficient way of passing wealth down generations.

Personal milestones & family matters

We guide families or private clients through life’s milestones such as death, divorce or inheritance, via our core services of wealth planning, investment management and lending.

We provide sensitive and professional support to clients working closely with many family lawyers, and can look to provide lending facilities to assist clients through their divorce proceedings. This can be used to help fund legal fees.

Charities & trusts

We work closely with trustees to ensure that we fully understand the risk mandate and investment objectives of their respective charities. This extends to fully understanding the investment principles, challenges and aspirations of the charity to ensure our services are fully tailored to their ongoing needs.

Supporting business sellers

We work in partnership with Corporate Finance professionals, including lawyers and accountants, to engage with clients who are looking to sell their business. We’re on hand to provide expert guidance and structure pre and post-sale.

This includes collaborating with our professional partners and the client to ensure they’re prepared with a structured wealth plan and road map for the future.

James is an experienced advisor and has spent many years providing relationship based financial planning to private clients, businesses, charities and trusts. At Brown Shipley, James established a service dedicated to planning for retirement for clients wishing to understand how best to utilise the pensions, investments and other assets. He is also a Chartered Financial Planner and an elected Fellow of the Personal Finance Society.

Anne Brookes

Anne Brookes

Anne has been the Head of our Birmingham office since January 2011. Having established the team in Birmingham, Anne continues to be responsible for leading the team alongside managing a client portfolio with a variety of high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients, including a number of business owners and entrepreneurs. Before joining Brown Shipley, Anne previously held positions at NatWest in private banking and financial planning, and then Coutts.

Andrew Goodchild

Andrew Goodchild

Andrew is responsible for managing the investments of charities, trusts, corporate and private clients in Yorkshire and across the United Kingdom.  A trained equity analyst, he joined Brown Shipley in 1998 as a Director in charge of the Yorkshire office. Andrew is a member of Brown Shipley's Investment Policy Committee which oversees the research and asset management.
